    Frequently asked questions

    What is ATM BIN sponsorship?

ATM BIN sponsorship is a model where a licensed card scheme member allows an Independent ATM Deployer (IAD) to use its Bank Identification Numbers (BINs) to access Visa, Mastercard, or other card schemes. This enables IADs to acquire transactions without holding direct scheme memberships.

Why would an ATM operator need BIN sponsorship?

Card schemes require ATM Acquirers to be licensed members. BIN sponsorship allows IADs to access these networks without having to become direct members, which is costly, time-consuming and requires the member to hold regulatory approval.

What are the responsibilities of the IAD?

The sponsored IAD is responsible for operating ATMs in compliance with scheme rules, local regulations, and the sponsorship agreement. They must provide transaction acceptance, follow security standards (e.g., PCI DSS), and ensure uptime and reporting obligations are met.

How does transaction settlement work under a BIN sponsorship model?

Transaction settlement is quite simple under a sponsorship model. The BIN sponsor receives daily settled transactions with the card schemes and using their permissions as a regulated entity, passes the funds to the IAD or associated cash owner.

How long does it take to set up an ATM BIN sponsorship?

Timelines vary but generally range from 8 to 16 weeks. This includes due diligence, technical integration, scheme approval, and settlement setup.
